Fishing is a productive activity which brings into backpack lots of different types of fish. And they are cute. Perhaps their cuteness could be shown off more publicly?
Adopting a pet through fishing could be an alternative to hatching a pet, and could involve some additional actions to undertake for example in the Derby, or additional items to buy, for example a special training aquarium. Derby or other inventions could be used to train a fish into a pet.

These fishes are just examples of potential lovely additions to the pet set of the game.
Perhaps fishing could become coupled with a similar game activity which also would bring uniquely obtained pets?
How about bird catching? Net hunting could be another animal hobby which would result in many sweet exceptional creatures from the category of birds. They also could be specifically trained to become pets, like fishes, inside Derby or through purchase of special items. And they would have cages. Cages are an obvious alternative to aquariums.
A few fishes and a few birds already are pets from the game collection - for example Storm Bird and Spinyfish, but there is no harm in widening their category through Fishing and Bird Catching.
